WHAT WE DO

PARALLEL PROJECTS is a fully functional finance department that works behind the scenes with artists, managing the financial aspects of creative businesses. From sorting payroll, business insurance and taxes to creating budgets and collecting payments, we review our clients' cash flow and strategize business decisions, meeting as often or as little as needed. In other words, we'll manage your money while allowing you to focus on what matters most to you: moving forward on your path as an artist.

We work with some of the most successful photographers, stylists, creative directors and designers in the fashion industry. We help creatives manage their business so that they can focus solely on what matters most— doing the work they love and growing their client base. 

We keep a watchful eye on your cash flow, make sure the bills are paid, log expenses, sort payroll and business insurance and liaise with CPAs at the end of the year to prepare your taxes. We also analyze your finances and help you make strategic decisions about how to run your business and set goals for the future.

AGENCIES: CREATIVE ADVERTISING, PRODUCTION, ARTIST REPRESENTATION

We work with some of the biggest creative, advertising, production and artist representation agencies in the industry. We are a fully-functioning finance team that can manage all the tasks of an in-house finance department. Our services are designed to meet the complex needs of an agency — from managing cash flow, accounts receivable and accounts payable to logging expenses, preparing artist statements, facilitating payroll and sorting business insurance and quarterly tax planning — we manage your day-to-day business operations and provide you with top-level financial analysis so that you and your employees can focus on business performance, expanding the client base and setting new goals for the company.

FOUNDER + CEO: MICHELLE FUNKE

Michelle Funke is the Owner and CEO of Parallel Projects, Inc. 

Prior to founding Parallel Projects in 2015, Michelle oversaw financial operations for the NY and LA offices of Camilla Lowther Management (CLM).

Before joining CLM Michelle worked in corporate finance, gaining invaluable insight into the operations of multi-billion dollar companies.

She worked at Sony Music, where she handled artist royalties and profit and loss analysis and forecasted iTunes revenue in the initial years following the launch of the platform. From there she moved on to News Corporation, where she worked in corporate financial reporting, where she was instrumental in several mergers and acquisitions, including Dow Jones.  Next, at Arnold Worldwide she managed several global multi-national corporations including The Hershey Company and Sanofi-Aventis.

In 2015 Michelle launched Parallel Projects, Inc. a boutique finance platform serving small small agencies and artists in the fashion and beauty industries. 

Michelle graduated with a Finance Degree from Loyola University - New Orleans.

FINANCE MANAGER: CHRISTINA LIVIA


Born and raised in New York, Christina always dreamed of working in the city.  She knew from the start that the corporate job setting was not for her and quickly found a home at Parallel Projects which gave her the opportunity to give personality to finance.

 

Christina graduated from St. John's University with a degree in Accounting.

FINANCE ASSOCIATE: ISLENNY GOMEZ

Islenny graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a degree in Fashion and Business. Previously she was a member of the finance teams at luxury fashion brands MCM Worldwide and La Perla, where she assisted with inter-company business reporting and million-dollar budgets on a daily basis. Islenny found the environment of bigger corporate companies to be restricting and quickly found a home at Parallel Projects, which has given her the opportunity to work independently and pursue her creative ambitions more freely.

CREATIVE CONSULTANT & DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT: BARRI BUDIN

Barri Budin is a veteran in the fashion industry with over 15 years experience in brand development, design, manufacturing, creative direction and business development.

She founded Madison Harding, a NYC based woman’s shoe brand which she grew for 10 years before selling the company in 2014. Since her time at Madison Harding, Barri has consulted for several start ups in the fashion and retail space. As an entrepreneur and a creative, she understands first hand how to grow a creative business into a viable one. Barri has extensive experience in creating brand decks, financial models, and business plans. 

In 2016, she joined the team at Parallel Projects to offer assistance with the company's creative brand direction as well as overall business development and strategy. In addition, Barri is able to offer business development and strategy assistance to Parallel Project’s clients.

Barri has a B.S. from Skidmore College and an M.A. from New York University

FINANCE ASSISTANT: KRISHNA PATEL

Krishna has always loved fashion. Taking inspiration from Rachel Greene of Friends she decided she also wanted to work on the business side of the fashion industry. After graduating from Rutgers University with a degree in Finance, she set out to find her dream job. That’s when she found her place at Parallel Projects where she will further her career.

FINANCE ANALYST; LONDON: DEEPA CHOHAN

Deepa started her journey in the world of finance in Kenya, where she was born and raised.

To advance her career she moved to the United Kingdom where she acquired an ACCA and an MBA in Investment Management all while gaining experience in one of the fastest growing IT Reseller Companies in the finance sector.

Deepa has always been always crazy about fashion but never had the chance to incorporate it into a career in corporate finance. She soon discovered Parallel Projects where she now has the opportunity to do exactly what she loves.
